CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team's fourth quarter rally fell short as the Cougars dropped a 72-68 decision at Cal State Dominguez Hills in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Thursday at the Torodome.
The Cougars fall to 13-11 overall and 10-9 in conference action. The Toros improve to 7-19 for the season and 4-15 in CCAA play.
Three Cougars reached double digits with senior guard
Dee Armenta leading the way with 19 points after going 5-for-12 behind the 3-point line. Junior forward
Savannah Camp narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard
Ashley Jenkins chipped in 10 points.
As a team, the Cougars blocked eight CSUDH shots in the contest. The Toros won the battle of the boards, grabbing 33 to CSUSM's 25 rebounds.
The Cougars trailed 37-27 at halftime and fell behind by as many as 20 (50-30) in the third quarter. A six-point run capped by an Armenta jumper cut the Toro lead to 70-68. CSUDH's Breanna DuBois sunk a pair of free throws to secure the victory.
Jocelyne Daiz recorded a team-best 17 points for CSUDH with Destinee Williams and Simone Thompson each adding 16 points.
The Cougars conclude their 2016-17 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Cal State L.A. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
