SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's basketball teams continue their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference schedule and will take to the road one last time in 2017, traveling to Cal State L.A. on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. for the women's game and 7:30 p.m. for the men's game.

CAL STATE LOS ANGELES
  • CSUSM is 1-4 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
  • The Cougars and CSULA split one game apiece last season with CSUSM winning 77-68 at home in the first matchup on Dec. 31 followed by a 68-66 Golden Eagles win in the final regular season game of the year on Feb. 25 in Los Angeles.
  • CSULA is coming off a 1-1 record last week after defeating Cal State San Bernardino 70-54 and dropping a 60-56 decision to UC San Diego. Rikke Fabricius was the leading scorer in both games with 29 and 13 points respectively.
  • Three Golden Eagles enter the game averaging double-digits in scoring. Fabricius leads the team with 15.1 points per game followed by Mackenzie Barnes with 11.8 and Christine Delapina with 10.4 points.
 
CSUSM BREAKDOWN
  • Last week, CSUSM fell to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 75-56, in their only game of the week. Seniors Savannah Camp (12) and Raegan Lillie (10) both finished in double-digits scoring while classmate Lupe Cruz totaled nine points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes.
  • The Cougars rank inside the top five in multiple categories in the CCAA including, 3-point field-goal percentage defense (27.1 percent), defensive rebounds (28.9), blocked shots per game (3.71) and assists per game (14).
  • Senior Savannah Camp ranks fifth in the CCAA in points scored per game (16.0) and classmate Monica Friedl sits in sixth place for total blocks (9).

CAL STATE LOS ANGELES
  • The Cougars are 1-2 all-time against CSULA.
  • Just a total of four points separated these two teams a season ago as CSUSM won the first of two matchups 73-71 at home on Dec. 31 before falling 101-99 in Los Angeles in the final regular season game of the season.
  • CSULA has dropped three of its last four CCAA games and most recently coming off a home loss, 81-73, to UC San Diego. The Golden Eagles are 6-1 at home this season.
  • Four Golden Eagles are averaging double-digits in points per game including Garrett Carter (16.3), Jalyn Pennie (13.4), Jihad Woods (10.5) and Elliot Smith (10.1). CSULA ranks first in the CCAA in blocked shots (55), turnover margin (5.27), offensive rebounds (134), made 3-pointers per game (10.5) and third in scoring points per game (78.5).
 
CSUSM BREAKDOWN
  • The Cougars went 1-0 last week after taking down Cal State Dominguez Hills 93-77 on Sunday night in Carson and have won six of their last seven games. Senior Ethan Alvano had a team-high 34 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field to go with six assists and six steals.
  • CSUSM ranks first in the CCAA in multiple categories including points per game (85.0), scoring margin (15.2), 3-pt field-goal percentage (41.9), free-throw percentage (76.7) and assist/turnover ratio (1.4).
  • Senior guard Ethan Alvano leads the conference in scoring (21.2), assists (7.1), assist/turnover ratio (3.4) and steals (3.1) per game and is second in field-goal percentage (52.5).
  • Senior Josh Spiers and junior Dalton Soffer rank second and third in the CCAA in made 3-pointers per game with 3.0 and 2.9, respectively. Senior Joe Boyd leads the conference in rebounds per game (9.9).
