SAN DIEGO –
Maddy Newcombe of the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team was named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for October 2017, it was announced by the SDHOC on Friday.
"This is great recognition for Maddy, her attention to detail in her game, her commitment to improving her game is paying off," said head coach
Andrea Leonard. "She truly is a special player who has the ability to be a game changer."
The sophomore middle blocker came up big for the Cougars in October, finishing with a .345 attack percentage behind 92 kills on 200 attempts and only made 23 errors. Newcombe also tallied 34 blocks, including nine of the solo variety while adding 14 aces and 33 digs.
Newcombe registered four double-digit kill nights with a season-best 18 kills against Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 14.
The Cougars will close out their 2017 home schedule against crosstown-rival UC San Diego on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in The Sports Center. The first 200 fans will receive a free t-shirt.
