SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team opened the scoring, but could not hold off San Francisco State in a 2-1 loss Sunday, Oct. 8 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at The Cage.
Sophomore
Parker Hodges registered his second goal of the season to put the Cougars ahead in the 10th minute. Aydan Bowers found the equalizer in the 37th minute before Ranier Plantinos netted the eventual game-winner in the 80th minute for the Gators.
CSUSM falls to 2-8-2 overall and 0-7-1 in CCAA action. SFSU improves to 8-1-2, 3-1-2 CCAA.
The Cougars outshot the Gators 19-14 and put four of their shots on-frame. SFSU dominated the corner kick battle, 11-4.
Freshman
Dante Longo led CSUSM with three shots while sophomore goalkeeper
Justin Tesar recorded four saves between the pipes for the Cougars.
Ranier Plantinos led the attack for SFSU with three shots and making his first collegiate start, freshman goalkeeper Peter Swinkles tallied three saves in the match.
CSUSM will head on the road to take on CCAA opponent Sonoma State on Friday, Oct. 13. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m.
