LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team drops a 1-0 decision to city rival UC San Diego on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Triton Soccer Stadium.
UCSD's Jonathan Sabouri scored from distance for the game-winning goal in the 61st minute coming off an assist by Steven Ortiz. It was the third goal of the season for Sabouri.
CSUSM drops to 2-7-2 overall and 0-6-1 in CCAA play. UCSD improves to 7-1-3, 5-1-1 CCAA.
"I thought we carried the game for long stretches of the match," said head coach
Ron Pulvers. "Our back line was great tonight, I thought
Marco Burgueno was the best player on the field for us. We need to find some potency up front to be able to win these games."
UCSD outshot the Cougars 15-9 but CSUSM forced Tritons' goalkeeper Pedro Enciso to make five saves in the match. The Cougars won the corner kick battle 3-2.

Bryan Morrison led CSUSM with three shots and two on goal while freshman
Rodrigo Rodriguez chipped in two shots.
CSUSM returns home for its next match on Sunday, Oct. 8 as they will take on CCAA opponent San Francisco State at The Cage. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m.
