SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team registered a four-set California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory (25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-17) over Cal State East Bay on Friday night at The Sports Center.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 12-9 overall and 9-4 in CCAA action. The Pioneers fall to 13-9, 6-7 in conference play.
Sophomore middle blocker
Maddy Newcombe led the Cougars with 12 kills and a .478 attack percentage. Junior outside hitter
Courtney Hulla recorded 11 kills with five coming in the fourth set. Sophomore outside hitter
Madi Anderson notched 17 digs while freshman libero
Grecia Cordero-Barr finished with nine digs and three aces. Junior
Lauren Lee dished out 20 assists while tallying a .304 clip behind eight kills on 23 attempts and one error.
CSUSM closed out the match with four unanswered points to clinch the victory.
The Cougars out-blocked CSUEB, 11-8, with Newcombe recording five total blocks, four being solos.
CSUEB's Deja Thompson and Lindsey Ray finished with 14 and 13 kills, respectively.
The Cougars host Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
