SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team fell to Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-0, in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Thursday at the Otters Sports Complex.
Pedro Hernandez put the Otters on the board first with a goal in the 28th minute on an assist from Edrey Valencia. Makenna Pendleton followed with the first of his two goals scored less than two minutes later to give CSUMB a 2-0 lead at halftime. Pendleton collected his second goal of the match after finishing a PK in the 65th minute to make it 3-0 Otters.
CSUSM falls to 2-11-2 and 0-9-1 in CCAA play while the Otters improve to 3-11-1, 2-8-1 CCAA.
The Cougars outshot CSUMB, 12-11, for the match but were outshot 8-2 in the second half by the Otters. CSUMB won the corner kick battle, 6-4, including four in the second half. CSUSM forced five total saves from CSUMB goalkeeper Jesus Ochoa.
Nine different players recorded at least one shot for CSUSM. Junior
Bryan Morrison led the team with three shots, two on goal, while sophomore
Eric Poland finished with two shots and one on frame.
CSUSM will conclude its 2017 regular season schedule with a road match against CCAA opponent Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11:30 a.m.
