ARCATA, Calif, - A first half goal from senior Kayla Anderson lifts CSUSM over Humboldt State, 1-0, on Sunday at College Creek Field.
Anderson scored her third goal of the season in the sixth minute on an assist from classmate Meghan Randig for the eventual game-winner. It was the first assist of the season for Randig.
CSUSM improves to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in CCAA play. The Lumberjacks fall to 6-7-1, 2-6-1 CCAA.
Both teams finished even in total shots with 11, while CSUSM won the corner kick battle, 5-2. Freshman goalkeeper Yesenia Betancourt, making just her second start of the season, recorded her first career clean sheet.
The Cougars return home on Saturday, Oct. 21 to take on city rival UC San Diego. This will be a nonconference match, with CSUSM recognizing their six seniors on senior day. Also, the first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free CSUSM athletic T-shirt. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
