SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Despite a career-high 18 kills from sophomore middle blocker
Maddy Newcombe, the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team fell in a five-set California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) heartbreaker against Cal Poly Pomona (19-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 10-15) on Saturday night at The Sports Center.
The Cougars drop to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in conference play. The Broncos improve to 9-10 overall, 5-6 in CCAA action.
Newcombe hit .424 to lead the Cougars while recording four digs, three aces and two solo blocks. Junior setter/outside hitter
Lauren Lee nabbed her second triple-double of the season 21 assists, 11 kills and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter
Courtney Hulla tallied 12 kills.
Five Broncos reached double-digits in kills with Kristen Hamlin leading the way with 16 in the match.
The Cougars return to the road next week, traveling to San Francisco State on Friday, Oct. 20.
