SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team fell 4-0 to No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Sunday afternoon in The Cage.
The Cougars would surrender a late first half PK to Sergi Monso. CPP would then add their final three goals in the 58th, 78th and 88th minutes of the match. Three different Broncos would all score in the match.
CSUSM drops to 2-6-2 overall and 0-5-1 in CCAA action. CPP improves to 8-3, 4-2 CCAA.
"I thought we played relatively well for good stretches of the game, I thought we were significantly better than we played on Friday," said head coach
Ron Pulvers. "We are doing enough to score goals but we just aren't getting the result." "I am proud of the guys, we still really love our team and we love the way they try and play and we are looking forward to another tough challenge on Wednesday and getting on the right side of the result."
The Cougars were outshot 11-6 on the day but did force three saves from CPP's goalkeeper Jason Trejos for the match.
Luis Najera Jr. would record his third goal of the season on a lead pass from Monso that was buried just inside the left post to make it 2-0 in the 58th minute. Monso would then add his second goal after receiving a couple of great passes from Najera Jr. and Ibrahima Diakite in the 78th minute. The Broncos final goal would come from Jimmie Villalobos on a through ball from Monso that snuck just inside the post. Monso finished with two goals and two assists in the match.

The Cougars will travel on the road to take on CCAA opponent and crosstown rival UC San Diego on Wednesday, Oct. 4
th in La Jolla. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
