SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team will host two pivotal California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games this week. The Cougars, currently sitting in fifth place in the CCAA standings, welcome third-place San Francisco State on Thursday, Jan. 26 and fourth-place Sonoma State on Saturday, Jan. 28. Both games are set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. CSUSM will then have two days off before hosting a non-conference game against West Coast Baptist.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM upset No. 18 UC San Diego by a final score of 72-67 on the road. The Cougars trailed by as much as 11 points in the first half, but a 25-8 run gave them a six-point advantage at halftime. CSUSM extended its lead to 10 points in the second half and hung on for the win.
- CSUSM fell to Cal State San Bernardino in a shootout, 106-100. The Cougars were able to climb out of a 22-point hole in the first half and evened the score late in the game, but weren't able to get the necessary stops down the stretch against the Coyotes.
- CSUSM is second in the CCAA in scoring offense, averaging 81.1 points per game. The Cougars lead the conference in field goal percentage at .497 and three-point field goal percentage at .461.
- Junior forward Joe Boyd leads the conference in rebounding at 10.4 per game. He is second in field goal percentage, nailing 58.8 percent (110-187) of his shots.
- Senior guard Tyson Kygar ranks first in the CCAA with a .545 three-point field goal percentage. He leads the CCAA with 3.2 treys per game.
- Junior guard Josh Spiers is second in the conference with a .500 three-point field goal percentage and third in 3-pointers made with 2.6 per game.
- Junior guard Ethan Alvano ranks second in the CCAA in scoring at 17.3 points per game. Alvano is second in the conference in assists at 4.9 per game and second in steals at 2.2 per game.

- The Cougars are 7-2 in their brand new home, The Sports Center.
- CSUSM was 47-9 (.839) from 2011-16 when the Cougars called MiraCosta College "home".
SAN FRANCISCO STATE BREAKDOWN
- San Francisco State is currently receiving votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) national poll. The Gators are second in the CCAA standings with an 8-3 conference record.
- San Francisco State ranks second in the nation in field goal percentage defense, holding its opponents' shots to 38.1 percent. The Gators are seventh in the nation in steals per game, averaging 10.2 per game.
- Warren Jackson is fifth in the conference in scoring and assists at 15.8 points per game and 4.1 assists per game. Coley Apsay leads the CCAA and is fifth in the nation in takeaways, averaging 2.9 steals per game.
- CSUSM is 0-1 all-time against San Francisco State. The Cougars narrowly fell to the Gators, 73-71, in San Francisco last season.
- San Francisco State head coach Paul Trevor is in his seventh season at the helm.
SONOMA STATE BREAKDOWN
- Sonoma State is currently in fourth place in the CCAA standings with a 7-3 conference record.
- The Seawolves sport the best scoring defense in the nation, limiting its opponents to an average of 58.4 points per game.
- Jimmy Golden is the only Sonoma State player to average double-figure scoring at 11.5 points per game. Nathan Molony-Benjamin is fourth in the CCAA in rejections with 1.8 blocks per game.
- The Seawolves will travel and play at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, Jan. 26, before facing CSUSM on Saturday.
- The Cougars are 1-1 all-time against Sonoma State. CSUSM defeated the Seawolvves at home, 67-60, but fell to them on the road, 102-70, last season.
- Head coach Pat Fuscaldo is in his 15th year at Sonoma State.
