HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team ended the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase on a high note, sweeping Dominican in three sets (25-20, 28-26, 25-17) behind a .328 attack percentage on Saturday.
"It was a very successful weekend for us in many ways," said CSUSM head coach
Andrea Leonard. "Our offense continues to build along with our composure in pressure moments. I am very encouraged with our team chemistry and overall depth we have as a program. We finished with success in the win column, but also finished with our focus and discipline to make adjustments quickly, this will only help us leading into a very competitive conference schedule."
In the first two weeks of the season, the Cougars have matched their win total from 2015 with a record of 6-2. Dominican, who entered the tournament undefeated, falls to 4-3.
Freshman
Madi Anderson produced a .375 clip on career-best 19 kills and only four errors in 40 attempts. Junior
Samantha Flores and sophomore
Lauren Lee each reached double-digits in digs with 19 and 12, respectively.
CSUSM trailed 18-15 before going on a 10-2 run to take the first set. It took three set points before the Cougars snagged the second set. In the third set, CSUSM never trailed and cruised to a victory.
The Cougars tallied 20 more kills than Dominican (56-36) in the contest.
CSUSM kicks off CCAA conference action on Friday, Sept. 16, hosting Cal State L.A. at The Sports Center. First serve is at 7 p.m.
