SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team christened its new home, The Sports Center, with a 25-12, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23 victory over La Sierra on Thursday night in the Cougars' season opener.
Prior to the game, there was a
ribbon cutting ceremony for The Sports Center.
CSUSM (1-0) finished with a .243 attack percentage and 52 kills. The Cougar defense held the Golden Eagles to a .144 clip and forcing 22 hitting errors.
Sophomore
Lauren Lee led CSUSM's offense with 14 kills while dishing out 13 assists. In their collegiate debut, freshmen
Maddy Newcombe and
Madi Anderson each tallied five total blocks. Anderson and senior
Brooke Butler put away 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior libero
Samantha Flores collected 18 digs in the contest.
La Sierra's (0-2) Emily Morgan registered a team-best with 11 digs, four aces and three blocks.
CSUSM is back on the court, hosting the Cougar Classic, on Friday and Saturday. The Cougars take on Johnson & Wales (Colo.) at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
