CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team fell 4-0 and 7-2 to Chico State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on a cloudy, drizzly day Friday at Wildcat Softball Field.
The Cougars drop to 4-18 overall and 2-12 in CCAA play while Chico State improves to 12-6, 9-5 CCAA.
The teams will attempt to play their Saturday doubleheader at 10 a.m. tomorrow rather than the previously scheduled start time of 11 a.m. in order to hopefully get the contests in before bad weather becomes a factor.
Game 1Wildcat starter Brooke Langeloh (7-1) limited the Cougars to just two hits while striking out 13 as Chico State shut-out the Cougars in game one.
The Cougars twice reached second base with one out in the second and fourth innings, but were unable to force a run across.
In the seventh,
Abby Allen walked and
Lindsay Cerulle singled to put runners on first and second, but Langeloh forced
Caylyn Rodriguez to strikeout to end the game.
Cerulle and
Robyn Alvara were both 1-for-3.
Game 2Alvara became the first Cougar to hit a homerun this season with a two-run dinger in the top of the seventh, but it was too-little-too-late as the Cougars dropped their 11
th game in a row, 7-2.
Alvara had the only two hits off CSUC's Haley Gilham (4-3) in the second game, part of a 2-for-3 effort by the senior.
CSUC used a five-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
The 11-game losing streak is the longest in CSUSM program history.
