SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team made five errors, which resulted in six unearned runs, in a 9-8 loss to San Diego Christian on Wednesday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field.
The Cougars fall to 1-1 on the year while the Hawks open their 2016 season with a victory.
Sophomore
Tyler Place led the Cougars with three hits while senior
Clinton Perez went 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a run.
Perez drove in two runs on a double down the left line to put CSUSM on the board in the opening frame. SDCC answered with a run in the top of the second.
CSUSM added another run in the third inning after SDCC's starter Caleb Rodusky walked four consecutive Cougars.
The Hawks took advantage of three CSUSM errors in the fourth inning, scoring five runs – four unearned – to take 6-3 lead.
After SDCC put up another run in the next frame, CSUSM posted four runs to even the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth. Perez and senior

L.A. Gamo registered back-to-back RBI singles.

Hudson Bilodeau drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth to put CSUSM back on top.
In the eighth inning, CSUSM saw its lead disappear, as the Hawks put up two runs on Ryan Alvarez's single through the right side.

Shane Coleman took the loss after collecting the win in yesterday's season opener victory. He gave up two runs – one earned – on three hits in 2/3 innings. Codi Scanlon earned the win and Zachary Ambrose collected the save for SDCC. They combined for three shutout innings with Scanlon relinquishing two hits in his outing.
The Cougars round out their first week of the season hosting a doubleheader against La Sierra on Friday beginning at 11 a.m.
