TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team fell 4-1 and 4-1 to Stanislaus State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Saturday at Warrior Softball Field.
CSUSM was swept in its first CCAA road series by Stan St. and falls to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in CCAA play. Stan St. improves to 7-6, 4-4 CCAA.
The Cougars will be at home next weekend for a four-game set against Humboldt State on Friday and Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field.
Game 1Robyn Alvara was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles,
Tayler Ybarra went 2-for-3 with a double, but the Cougars struggled defensively and allowed two unearned runs en route to a 4-1 loss.
Alex Rowell and Alexus Martinez's RBI singles made it 2-0 in favor of the Warriors by the end of the second inning.
In the fourth, a throwing error from CSUSM starter
Amanda Horbasch (3-6) allowed runners to take first and third before a double-steal made it 3-0.
Caylyn Rodriguez's RBI single pulled the Cougars within 3-1 in the top of the fourth.
Alvara doubled to center with one out in the top of the sixth, but Kylie Ragsdale (5-5) was able to retire Horbasch and
Brogan Hoenisch to get out of the frame.
The Warriors added another in the bottom half due to a fielding error by CSUSM shortstop
Melyssa Bellamy.
Ybarra doubled to lead off the seventh, but once again the Cougars were unable to make anything out of it.
Game 2Alvara's RBI double in the top of the first inning handed the Cougars a 1-0 lead, but CSUSM was able to only muster a single hit and two more base runners the rest of the way off Stan St.'s Karina Collazo (1-0) in a 4-1 loss.
