CSUSM Swept by Warriors in First CCAA Road Series

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team fell 4-1 and 4-1 to Stanislaus State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Saturday at Warrior Softball Field.

CSUSM was swept in its first CCAA road series by Stan St. and falls to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in CCAA play. Stan St. improves to 7-6, 4-4 CCAA.

The Cougars will be at home next weekend for a four-game set against Humboldt State on Friday and Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field.

Game 1
Robyn Alvara was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, Tayler Ybarra went 2-for-3 with a double, but the Cougars struggled defensively and allowed two unearned runs en route to a 4-1 loss.

Alex Rowell and Alexus Martinez's RBI singles made it 2-0 in favor of the Warriors by the end of the second inning.

In the fourth, a throwing error from CSUSM starter Amanda Horbasch (3-6) allowed runners to take first and third before a double-steal made it 3-0.

Caylyn Rodriguez's RBI single pulled the Cougars within 3-1 in the top of the fourth.

Alvara doubled to center with one out in the top of the sixth, but Kylie Ragsdale (5-5) was able to retire Horbasch and Brogan Hoenisch to get out of the frame.

The Warriors added another in the bottom half due to a fielding error by CSUSM shortstop Melyssa Bellamy.

Ybarra doubled to lead off the seventh, but once again the Cougars were unable to make anything out of it.

Game 2
Alvara's RBI double in the top of the first inning handed the Cougars a 1-0 lead, but CSUSM was able to only muster a single hit and two more base runners the rest of the way off Stan St.'s Karina Collazo (1-0) in a 4-1 loss.
