OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a 79-49 victory over Life Pacific in non-conference play on Monday night at MiraCosta College.
The Cougars used a 15-0 run over the final 4:33 of the first half to take a 14-point lead at the break and never looked back for their largest victory of the 2015-16 season.
CSUSM improves to 13-10 overall while Life Pacific finishes its season at 5-23.
Ben Dickinson scored a game- and season-high 16 points for the Cougars, hitting 7-of-12 shots from the floor. He also added seven rebounds.
Akachi Okugo scored 15 points while adding seven rebounds and dishing out six assists.
The Cougars forced 21 turnovers on the evening.
Jimmy Roethler led the Warriors with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Troyon Butler pulled down 13 boards.
Both teams started sluggish out of the gate, but CSUSM pushed ahead 18-11 at the 7:53 mark. However, the Warriors would hold the Cougars scoreless over the next 3:37 and take its only lead, 19-18 with 4:34 left.
But, the Cougars answered with back-to-back buckets to retake the lead, part of a 15-0 run over the last 4:33 of the stanza. After holding LPC to 22.8-percent shooting in the first half, the Cougars took a 33-19 lead into the break.
The Cougars will host their final two home games this week. CSUSM faces UC San Diego on Thursday at 8 p.m. before hosting Cal State San Bernardino for Senior Night on Saturday.
