ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team was mathematically eliminated from contention for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season title on Saturday evening by Sonoma State. The Seawolves topped the Cougars, 102-70, at the Wolves' Den.
The Cougars drop to 12-10 overall and 9-7 in the CCAA, five games back of the CCAA's current leader, Chico State (13-2). CSUSM has just four conference contests remaining. CSUSM is tied for fifth in the conference standings with Cal State Monterey Bay.
SSU improves to 13-10 overall, 8-9 CCAA. The Seawolves need one more CCAA victory to guarantee a conference tournament berth.

Taran Brown led the Cougars with 15 points apiece.
SSU shot 56.5-percent for the game and made 12-of-22 (54.4-percent) shots from behind the arc. James Davis scored a game-high 29 points. All five starters scored in double-digits.
The 32-point loss matches the Cougars' longest in program history. CSUSM also lost by 32 on Jan. 30 at CSUMB.
SSU led by 11 five minutes into the game and kept their lead in double-digits for much of the first stanza. The Seawolves closed the half on a 12-2 run and led by 17, 46-29, at the half.
They scored the first six points of the second half and led by 23 at the 18:19 mark. CSUSM was able to get back within 19, but SSU did not relent, leading as many as 37.
CSUSM hosts three games next week at MiraCosta College. The Cougars take on Life Pacific on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. before hosting UC San Diego Thursday and Cal State San Bernardino for Senior Night on Saturday.
