SAN FRANCISCO – Darnell Taylor's layup with a second remaining missed off the front rim as the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team fell 73-71 to San Francisco State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Thursday night at The Swamp.
The Cougars trailed by six with 2:55 remaining, but rallied to cut the deficit to a point with 10 seconds left after
Taran Brown hit a 3-pointer and Taylor made a tough layup. SFSU's Coley Apsay made one-of-two free throws and the Cougars had an opportunity to tie or take the lead.
Taylor got around the right side, but couldn't convert near the rim before SFSU's Brantley Bynum corralled the layup.
The Cougars drop to 12-9 overall and 9-6 in CCAA play. SFSU improves 14-9, 8-9 CCAA.
Brown led the Cougars with 24 points and hit six 3-pointers on the evening. Taylor had seven points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Akachi Okugo added 17 points.
The Cougars will head to Sonoma State to face the Seawolves on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
