SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team will host a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) foes to close out the 2016 calendar year. The Cougars will start the slate with a battle against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Two days after that, CSUSM will welcome Cal State L.A. on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. The game will be former Cougar head coach Jim Saia's first return since he left to take the Golden Eagles' job this past summer. Saia amassed a record of 119-37 (.763) in five years leading CSUSM from its inaugural season, 2011-12, to last year, 2015-16.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- The Cougars fell to No. 10 California Baptist on Monday, Dec. 19. by a score of 84-63. CSUSM dug a hole they couldn't climb out of and trailed by 21 points, 44-23, at halftime. The Cougars cut the deficit to 14 points, 52-38, in the second half, but the gap was insurmountable.
- CSUSM is third in the conference in scoring offense, averaging 77.8 points per game. The Cougars lead the CCAA in field goal and three-point percentage at 49.5 percent (310-626) and 43.1 percent (93-216), respectively.
- Junior forward Joe Boyd is tied for third in the nation in double-doubles with a total of seven. Boyd is third in the nation in defensive rebound average at 8.5 per game and 21st in total rebound average at 10.8 per game.
- Senior guard Tyson Kygar ranks 16th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, nailing 52.5 percent of his shots from behind the arc.
- Junior guard Ethan Alvano ranks fourth in the CCAA in scoring at 15.9 points per game. Alvano is fifth in the conference in assists, averaging 4.3 per game.

- The Golden Eagles' Travis Hammonds is currently the CCAA scoring leader, averaging 17.4 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
- Jordan Wilson and Roderick Evans-Taylor also average double figures at 14.3 and 10.5 points per game, respectively.
- Cal State L.A. is led by Jim Saia, who previously spent the last five seasons as the head coach of Cal State San Marcos. He amassed a record of 119-37 (.763) during his tenure at the helm of the Cougars' men's basketball program.
