SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team picked up its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) sweep in program history on Saturday night after recording a three-set match victory over visiting San Francisco State at The Sports Center. The final scores were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 11-5 overall and 4-3 in conference action. SF State drops to 1-14, 0-6 in CCAA play.
"I am incredibly proud of our team tonight for taking another step forward this season," said CSUSM head coach
Andrea Leonard. "We have been focused on playing strong at home and we were able to get the result of that determination this weekend with two big conference wins. This team has so much depth, we keep pushing ourselves to compete at a higher level everyday and the results are happening because of that hard work."
CSUSM registered 40 kills to SF State's 28 with sophomore
Lauren Lee leading the way with 11 kills. Freshman
Taylor Dixon tallied 10 kills and senior
Brooke Butler chipped in nine kills.
The Cougars once again put together a strong blocking performance, finishing with nine blocks. Freshman
Maddy Newcombe collected five blocks and sophomore
Faith Fortune notched four blocks including two solos.
CSUSM makes its first of two midweek conference road trips of the season on Wednesday when the Cougars travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills for a 7 p.m. match.
