SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team fell behind early, but responded with a trio of unanswered goals to take down Cal State Monterey Bay 3-1 on Friday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at Otter Sports Complex.
Lauren Perry equalized in the 26
th minute,
Elizabeth Maass put the Cougars ahead right before the halftime whistle, and
Yeya Millan provided some insurance in the 82
nd minute. Each tally was the second of the season for each of the Cougar goal scorers.
The victory improves the Cougars to 4-2-4 overall and 2-2-1 in CCAA play while the loss drops CSUMB to 4-7-0 and 2-5-0 CCAA. Friday's match was CSUSM's first conference road contest of the season.
Ashlee Cortez put the Otters in the lead in the fifth minute with her third goal of the year.
However, Perry tied it up 20 minutes later. She gathered a ball at the top of the box and fired it into the bottom left corner.
The teams appeared they would head into the break tied, but Maass had different ideas. Following a scramble in the box, Maass latched onto the ball before tucking a shot inside the left post.
With less than 10 minutes remaining,
Jessica Harloe curled in a free kick from out wide. Millan beat the goalkeeper to it and put it away into an open net.
The Cougars take on San Francisco State on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m.
