SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team relied on its youth to make the difference in a 2-1 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday afternoon at Otter Sports Complex.
In the process, the Cougars also earned head coach
Ron Pulvers' 100
th victory as the man-in-charge of the CSUSM men's soccer program.
Freshman
Parker Hodges scored his second goal of the season in the 76
th minute to lift the Cougars to 4-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in CCAA play. After the Cougars forced a turnover in CSUMB's end, Hodges found the right top corner of the net to put the Cougars in the lead for good.
CSUMB drops to 2-6-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the CCAA.
Freshman
Richard Flores put the Cougars in the lead in the 12
th minute with his first collegiate goal, beating the keeper after a nice through-ball from
Diego Perez.
Nick Stanley evened it for the Otters in the 30
th minute with his first goal of 2016.
Pulvers, in his 11
th season as head coach of the men's team, is now 100-62-16 while at CSUSM. He is 226-133-30 overall in his 21-year head coaching career, which also includes an additional 10 years as head coach of Baker (Kan.).
The Cougars travel to San Francisco State to take on the Gators this Sunday at 2 p.m.
