About Time! McLeish's Header Lifts CSUSM 1-0 Over CSUDH

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team prevailed 1-0 over Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday afternoon in The Cage.

In the 11th minute, Jessica Harloe drove a line-drive corner kick to the far left post. Courtney McLeish headed it straight down and it bounced over the glove of CSUDH goalkeeper Elisa Martin and into the top of the net. For McLeish, a senior and a four-year letter winner, the goal marked the first of her Cougar career.

CSUSM improves to 5-3-4 overall and 3-3-1 CCAA. CSUDH drops to 7-5-0 and 4-3-0 overall following its third consecutive loss.

"We started the game really well. Our discipline and our shape was really good. We got some contributions from some new players today, as well, which is great sign. I feel like we're getting better and better every game," said CSUSM head coach Bobby Renneisen.

Harloe was making just her second start of the season and notched her second assist in her last three games. Sarena Lapham filled in for the suspended Holly Isaacs at right back, and Briana Daoust played significant minutes in central midfield. Sidney Hernandez, who had appeared in just one match, came in and played the final half hour on the back line after Lapham was lost to injury.

Despite the changes in front of her, Erica Dory was able to secure her fourth shutout of the season. The Toros had two shots on frame, but neither truly tested Dory.

CSUSM was somewhat unlucky to not add an insurance goal. Amy Wilson pinged a shot of the crossbar, and Elizabeth Maass' driven shot just floated over the bar.

Meghan Randig continually caused fits for the Toro defense. Late in the match, Randig snuck around her defender near the endline inside the six, but her shot high and to the near corner was caught by Martin.

CSUSM will be home for the final time in 2016 on Sunday against Cal State L.A. Kick-off is set for 11:30 a.m. Prior to the game, the Cougars will honor their six seniors for their service to the team in a special Senior Day ceremony starting at 11:10 a.m.
