OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team came from 13 points behind to overtake Cal State Monterey Bay 62-51 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Saturday night at MiraCosta College.
Tied 48-48 with 5:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Cougars held the Otters scoreless over the next five minutes and went on a 9-0 run in the process to take a commanding 57-48 lead with 54 seconds on the clock.
CSUSM improves to 4-7 overall and 3-5 CCAA. CSUMB drops to 6-8 overall, 2-5 CCAA.
Savannah Camp led the Cougars with a career-high 27 points, 20 of which came in the first half, and added 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the 2015-16 campaign.
Ashley Jenkins added 13 points while
Ashley Ontiveros contributed 10.
CSUSM scored its first bucket with 4:08 left in the first quarter and trailed 15-5 at the break, but rallied to outscore the Otters 27-14 in the second quarter to take a three-point lead. The Cougars went on a 16-3 run over the final four minutes and made their final six shots, four of which were 3-pointers.
However, CSUMB wouldn't go away and rallied to take a one-point lead, 45-44, at the end of the third quarter on Emma Keenan's 3-pointer.
McKenna Hills led the Otters with 11 points.
CSUSM moves on to face Vanguard in Costa Mesa on Thursday.
