OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team could not withstand the defensive pressure from Stanislaus State in a 64-50 loss to the Warriors on Saturday night in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
The Warriors, who pressed the majority of the evening, scored 27 points off 23 Cougar turnovers – the second-most turnover total for CSUSM in 2015-16.
CSUSM drops to 5-10 overall and 3-7 in CCAA play while Stan St. improves to 13-4 overall, 9-2 CCAA.
Ashley Ontiveros and
Paige Barber each scored nine points to lead all CSUSM players. Ontiveros added four assists.

Savannah Camp and Kyle Coppi each had six points. As a team, the Cougars managed just 36.4-percent (16-of-44) shooting.
The Warriors retained third place in the CCAA standings. Ana Burch led all scorers with 16 points and Alysa Valentine pitched in 13. Riley Hollady had six points, seven rebounds and three assists. Stan St. shot 60-percent (6-of-10) from behind the arc.
Ontiveros hit a 3-pointer to hand the Cougars a 27-23 lead with 5:24 remaining in the second quarter, but the Warriors answered with a 10-0 run to go up by six at the three-minute mark and led by as many at the halftime break, 35-29.
The Warriors limited the Cougars to just one basket over the first 5:07 of the third quarter while using a 13-2 spurt to go up 17, 48-31. However, the Cougars were able to whittle the deficit to 12 at the third-quarter break.
CSUSM was able to get back within 10 with 7:48 left in the fourth, but Stan St. limited the Cougars to just one basket over the next six minutes and pushed its lead back to 17.
The Cougars head north to play Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay next week.
