ST. GEORGE, Utah – Louie Farfan converted a penalty kick in the 69
th minute to pull the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team even with Montana State-Billings in a 1-1 tie on Friday night at Hansen Stadium on the campus of Dixie State.
CSUSM (0-0-1) was denied in the final minute of overtime by MSUB (0-0-1) goalkeeper Tom Lohmann and settled for the draw in its first official contest as a NCAA Division II squad.
The Cougars outshot the Yellowjackets, 9-6, and put four shots on frame.
"We got a taste of the type of play in DII tonight. I think we did well dealing with their physicality and power later in the game," said CSUSM head coach
Ron Pulvers. "We'll regroup for Sunday and be looking toward coming home with a win."
Niklas Schregal put MSUB ahead in the 28
th minute. The Yellowjackets were forced to play with 10 men after Cameron Lee was sent off in the 59
th minute.
CSUSM ends its road trip against host Dixie State on Sunday at 7 p.m.
