SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team knocked on the door, but could not break through in a 1-0 loss to Cal State East Bay in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Den.
Jenna Hernandez hit the post and
Natalie Lara could not poke in a ball on the line late in the match as CSUSM dropped to 1-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
CSUEB improves to 4-6, 2-2 CCAA.
Rachel Robbert's goal in the eighth minute provided the difference for the Pioneers, who secured their first win since Sept. 18.
Hernandez led all Cougars with four shots on the day.
Sidney Hernandez nearly found the goal for the Cougars on 40-yard free kick late in the first half, but her attempt careened off the crossbar.
CSUEB goalkeeper Amanda Valentine made four saves in her third shutout of the season.
The Cougars will take their first CCAA road trip next weekend to Cal State L.A. (Friday, Oct. 2) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Sunday, Oct. 4).
