The Week That WasCSUSM started the season 2-0 for the third consecutive season after wins of 92-77 over Concordia (Calif.) and 69-65 over San Diego Christian last week.
Darnell Taylor led the Cougars in scoring in both games, pouring in 25 points and 17 points, respectively. CSUSM is shooting 50.4-percent on the season while holding its two opponents to a 37.9-percent clip.
CSUSM Ranked in D2SIDA West Region PollCSUSM was voted seventh in the D2SIDA Men's Basketball West Region Poll released yesterday. The Cougars received 19 points in the poll after not being ranked in last week's edition. Various sports information directors from the West Region decide upon the poll.
Azusa Pacific Preview
All-time vs. APU: 0-3
Last Meeting vs. APU: L, 76-85 (Dec. 2, 2014); Following a 10-0 start to the 2014-15 season, CSUSM suffered its first loss of the year to APU on the road. The Cougars erased a 17-point halftime deficit to tie the game with 9:40 remaining, but APU used a 13-5 run over the game's final 4:18.
APU Breakdown: The APU Cougars are coming off an appearance in the 2015 NCAA Division II Elite Eight and are currently ranked fifth in the D2SIDA Men's Basketball West Region Poll. APU, from the PacWest Conference, has gone 2-1 against CCAA teams this year. APU has three players averaging over double-digit scoring so far this year.
BYU-Hawaii Preview
All-time vs. BYU-Hawaii: Friday's contest will be the first meeting between the squads.
BYU-Hawaii Breakdown: The Seasiders are coming off of a 2015 PacWest Conference Tournament title and an appearance in NCAA Division II Regionals. BYU has suffered back-to-back losses after opening the season with a road win at Western Washington. The Seasiders went 13-1 at home in 2014-15.

All-time vs. Chaminade: Saturday's contest will be the first meeting between the teams
Chaminade Breakdown: The Silverswords have yet to win a game this season, but upon second-glance of their schedule, their opponents have been quite the tall task. Chaminade traveled to Alaska for two games against Alaska Anchorage and the University of Alaska and are currently hosting the Maui Jim Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Maui. Last night, the Silverswords took on NCAA Division I No. 5 Kansas, and tonight will face UNLV. Tomorrow, they'll face either Indiana or St. John's.
The Jim Saia FileJim Saia enters his fifth season at the helm of Cal State San Marcos, a program he has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010. Saia holds a 106-25 (.809) on-court record at CSUSM and a 176-54 (.765) on-court record during his previous seven years as a collegiate head coach. He spent three seasons at Fresno Pacific (2007-10) prior to coming to CSUSM.
New TerritoryAfter four seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
New ConferenceCal State San Marcos is in its first season competing in the
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The CCAA is made up of 12 CSU institutions and UC San Diego. The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II leagues in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference. CSUSM was picked to finish fifth in the preseason CCAA coaches' poll.
