LOS ANGELES – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team fell in four sets to Cal State L.A. in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Saturday night at the Eagle Nest. The final scores were 25-23, 15-25, 25-22 and 25-21.
Despite the loss, CSUSM fought hard throughout the match and finished with a season-high .295 attack percentage. CSULA preformed just slightly better, tallying a .302 clip.
The Cougars drop to 4-15 overall and 1-10 in CCAA action. The Golden Eagles improve to 13-5, 6-4 CCAA.
Senior
Jordan Banich led CSUSM with 16 kills in addition to her six digs and two blocks. Senior
Taylor DeGraaf collected her fourth double-double this season with 10 kills and 18 digs. Freshman
Cheyanne Patin registered a .438 clip with eight kills.
After the Golden Eagles narrowly won the opening set at 25-23, CSUSM roared back to even the match at a set apiece with a convincing 25-15 victory in the second set.
The Cougars found themselves down 10-4 in the third set but rallied back to knot the set at 18-18. Back-to-back kills by Iona Lofrano gave CSULA a 25-22 win. The fourth set played out as a repeat of the third with CSUSM playing catch up the entire time.
Lofrano, the CCAA kill leader, led all attackers with 22 kills.
CSUSM returns home on Friday, Oct. 16 to begin a three-match home stand, hosting Stanislaus State at 5 p.m. at Hunter Gym.
