LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team collected its fifth consecutive victory, defeating Biola 69-68 at Chase Gymnasium Wednesday night. The Cougars improved to 6-10 while the Eagles drop to 11-6.
Senior
Cassie Damyanovich made 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and finished with 19 points. Senior
Heather Thompson snagged her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Senior
Mackenzie Harnett added 13 points and three steals.
CSUSM busted out of the gates quickly, taking a 15-9 lead in the first six minutes of the game. Trailing only once in the first half, the Cougars took a 39-36 advantage into the break.
CSUSM and Biola traded leads in the first seven minutes of the second half. The Cougars rattled off five unanswered points capped by an old-fashioned 3-point play by senior
Alex Alvarado at the 12:33 mark. A 3-pointer by Biola's Khadidia Diakite cut CSUSM's lead to 67-66 with 1:47 remaining. Harnett made both ends of her free throws to negate Biola's Chelsea Hill's layup.
CSUSM recorded a season-low 11 turnovers for the second consecutive game.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 10 when they host Menlo College at MiraCosta College. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
