RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team recorded a series sweep over La Sierra Thursday night after capturing a 72-50 victory at LSU gym. The Cougars collected a 65-56 win against the Lions in their home opener on Nov. 8.
With the win, CSUSM improved to 8-12 while the Lions dropped to 5-14 overall.
The Cougars snagged a 20-point cushion 12 minutes into the game on a basket by junior
Brianna Higgins. The lead was 30 points by halftime and the Lions never got closer than 18 the rest of the way.
The comfortable win allowed interim head coach
Crystal Harris to use her entire bench. Senior
Heather Thompson led the balanced effort, recording her eighth double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior
Cassie Damyanovich and Higgins both reached double-digits in scoring with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Melanie Henderson led La Sierra with 10 points.
The Cougars host Bethesda on Saturday, Jan. 31 at MiraCosta College. Five CSUSM seniors –

Cassie Damyanovich,
Mackenzie Harnett,
Kimberly Kipp and
Heather Thompson – will be honored for their service to the team prior to the 7:30 p.m. tip.
