CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team was dominant in tis home opener against Redlands, Wednesday, sweeping the Bulldogs (25-9, 25-10, 25-7) at Pacific Ridge School. The Cougars improve to 10-3 on the season while the Bulldogs drop to 0-1.
For the second time this season, the Cougars didn not register a reception error. The solid passing has been key part of their success in their first 13 matches. Overall, CSUSM hit a season best .470 (36-5-66) as a team, while Redlands hit -.042 (14-17-71).
Freshman
Cheyenne Richards had a match-high 10 kills while sophomores
Morgan Willis and
Brooke Butler chipped in six kills each.
The Cougars served up a double-digit performance for a second consecutive match, recording 13 aces in the three sets. Every CSUSM player saw court time and recorded a stat on the box score.
CSUSM posted a 25-9 win in the opening set, hitting .375. The Cougars forced the Bulldogs to a -.045 attack percentage. Willis and Richards paced the team with four kills apiece.
The Cougars hit an incredible .609 in the second set, tallying 15 kills on 23 attempts and only one error. CSUSM snagged a 25-10 win.
CSUSM completed the sweep with a 25-7 third-set win. The Cougars once again limited itself to just one attack error, posting a .421 hitting percentage.
CSUSM returns to the road for two matches in Costa Mesa on Friday, facing Mayville State at 11 a.m. followed by a match-up against host Vanguard at 7 p.m.
