SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team's streak of beating ranked squads ended Sunday afternoon at the CSUSM Multipurpose Field, as No. 23 Rocky Mountain (Mont.) topped CSUSM, 3-2.
The Cougars entered the match coming off wins against No. 10 Concordia (Calif.) and No. 24 Biola – the only time in program history in which CSUSM has defeated two consecutive ranked opponents. Adding a third to that list proved to be untenable.
Sullivan Tobin's goal cut CSUSM's deficit to 2-1 in the 51
st minute, and CSUSM did well to carry the play throughout much of the second half. However, Zach Wall's goal against the run of play in the 85
th took the wind out of CSUSM's sails.
Evan Myers scored less than three minutes from full time, but it proved to be a bit too little, too late.
The Cougars drop to 6-3 overall with the loss, while RMC improves to 4-6.
More to come.
