ResultsGULF SHORES, Ala. – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track teams wrapped up the final day of the NAIA National Championships on Saturday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
The CSUSM women's team scored 10 points today and finished in 16
th place with 18 total points; the men scored five points today to finish 18
th with 16 total points. It is the men's team's best finish since taking 15
th in 2010.
The Cougars added five more All-America awards on Saturday and will leave Alabama with a total of 12.
The day started with the men's and women's marathon.
Daniel Ybarra and
Ciera Stauffer both placed 19
th in their respective races with times of 2:54:06.80 and 3:28:44.70.
Then,
Deng Akuien ran a personal-best time of 9:11.19 in the 3,000m steeplechase, earning All-America honors and three points with a sixth-place finish.
The top eight finishers in each final earn All-America honors. In addition, team points are awarded with a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring format for the top eight finishers; for first place, one receives 10 points for their team, a second-place finish is worth eight points, a third-place finish is worth six, and so forth.
Amber Rosario ran 14.21 in the 100m hurdles to place seventh. It is the third consecutive season in which Rosario has been named an All-American in the event.
Maurice Strickland, who finished runner-up in the decathlon on Friday, vaulted 4.90m in the pole vault to earn his second All-America award of the meet with a seventh-place finish.
The women's 4x400 relay team of
Brianna Gibas,
Michelle Cruz,
Charlotte Kuzminsky and Rosario placed seventh in the final with a time of 3:52.39.
Kate Bouvatte also earned her second All-America award of the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000m. She finished in 17:36.58.
