ResultsLA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos track & field teams had strong performances at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational on Saturday at Triton Track & Field Stadium.
For the women,
Kelly Skvarna threw 40.15 meters, or 131 feet nine inches, in the javelin, good enough for a personal best, a "B" standard, and seventh overall at the meet. The throw also broke the previous school record - which she held - of 35.49m.
On the track,
Cristen Lane and
Raelyn Werley ran 4:45.39 and 4:49.43 in the 1500m, respectively. Additionally,
Charlotte Kuzminsky, who already has a "B" standard in the event this year, ran a 4:53.74.
Amber Rosario also had a strong outing as she ran 14.40 in the 100m hurdles, her best time of this season so far, placing ninth overall at the meet. In the same event,
Brittany Hollie ran 14.95, good enough for 15
th overall. Both Rosario and Hollie already have "A" standards and are qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the event.
In the 4X400m relay, the team of
Brianna Gibas,
Jessica Toliver, Kuzminsky, and Rosario, ran under the "B" standard with a time of 3:56.46.
On the men's side,
Maurice Strickland hit a "B" standard in his fifth different event this season as vaulted 4.70 meters, or 15 feet 5 inches, in the pole vault, putting him in seventh place. Strickland is already qualified in the NAIA National Championships in the decathlon, 100 meter hurdles, and 400 meter hurdles.
Strickland wasn't done on the day as he placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.31, just .01 seconds off of his seasonal best. In the same event,
Kyle Johnson hit a "B" standard with a time of 14.99.
In the 400 meter hurdles,
Damon Moore, who already has an "A" standard in the event, ran 54.91 and placed 11
th overall.
Moore would later help his teammates in the 4X400 meter relay as he teamed up with
Justin Washington,
Chung Pham and
Hector Collazo to place second overall with a time of 3:17.90, just .90 seconds off of a "B" standard.
The Cougars will travel to UC Irvine next weekend to compete in head coach
Steve Scott's namesake event, the Adidas/
Steve Scott Invitational.
