SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 15 Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team looks to dethrone defending national champion No. 2 Concordia (Calif.) in the second round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship on Monday in Orange Beach, Ala. The Cougars are one of 16 squads left in the national tournament.

InstagramCSUSM National Championship HistoryThe Cougars will be making their third-ever appearance in the NAIA Second Round and second in as many years. CSUSM qualified for the final site of the NAIA National Championship by advancing past No. 10 Vanguard, 4-3 on penalty kicks in the opening round on Nov. 22 in Costa Mesa. The Cougars have never advanced past the second round and fell to Northwood (Fla.), 3-2, a season ago. Overall, CSUSM holds a 2-5-1 record in NAIA tournament matches.

Last meeting vs. CU: L, 0-1 (2OT) (Nov. 17, 2012 – NAIA Opening Round); The Cougars and Cavaliers have met only one time in the past, in the 2012 NAIA Opening Round in Portland, Ore. CU got a goal from Ashley Ames in the 102
nd minute after the teams played to a scoreless tie through regulation and the first overtime.
Amanda Sears made seven saves in the loss for CSUSM.
CU Breakdown: CU, the No. 4-seed for this year's NAIA National Championship, holds a 28-11-3 all-time record in NAIA National Championship matches. The Cavs took down Westmont, 1-0, in the 2013 championship match for the only national title in CU program history. Fourteen different players have scored goals for the Cavs while the 17 game-winning goals have come from nine different players. Seniors Alivia Kolter and Erin Huisingh lead the team with seven goals, while Ames and Ariel Kanable follow with five. CU won the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) crown for the 18
th time earlier this month.
CSUSM Unbeaten in Last 13CSUSM was one of only two unseeded teams to advance past the NAIA Opening Round. The Cougars have not fallen since dropping a 3-0 decision at No. 5 Concordia (Calif.) on Sept. 17 in Irvine. The streak of 13 unbeaten contests is the longest in program history. In addition, the Cougars have not surrendered a goal in their last seven contests. Sears, who has spent the majority of the time between the pipes for CSUSM, boasts a 0.38 goals against average – second lowest in the nation.
NAIA-Daktronics Scholar AthletesSears and senior defender
Nicole Luna were named NAIA-Daktronics Scholar Athletes by the national office on Friday. In order to be nominated, each needed to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least junior academic status. For Luna, it is the second year in a row that she has been honored. It's a first-time recognition for Sears. CSUSM women's soccer has taken home 13 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete awards since 2010.
On The OffensiveCSUSM hasn't scored since its A.I.I. semifinal match against Houston-Victoria, a span of over 230 minutes, but that hasn't stopped the Cougars from getting this far. Junior
Paulina Good, the A.I.I. Player of the Year, leads the team with seven goals. Senior forward
Amy Young has six scores on the year. Brianna Searl has dished out nine assists. 16 different players have scored this season for CSUSM.
