CSUSM Makes Quick Work of Simpson in 3-0 Win

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The No. 25 Cal State San Marcos volleyball team made quick work of visiting Simpson, 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-16) on Sunday afternoon at Pacific Ridge School.  Junior Jordan Banich led the Cougars with a match-high 14 kills.

"I'm impressed with our player's determination and focus," said head coach Andrea Leonard. " We are beginning to see our team come together with a strong conviction of making each other stronger."

The Cougars dominated on offense, staying below five errors in each set, with a .362 attack percentage.  The defense also produced, racking up 10 blocks and keeping the Red Hawks to a .029 attack percentage.

"Alyssa Foster is leading this team with confidence to achieve," Leonard said. "Today we were balanced in area and came out strong on both defense and offense."

The Cougars never trailed after reaching the five-point mark of each set.

CSUSM's largest run in the first set was five points as the Cougars just steadily kept adding to their lead to take a 25-14 victory.

The second set showed the Cougars jumping out to a 6-0 lead that consisted of two kills by sophomore Brooke Butler and two blocks by the duo of senior Erin Talafus and freshman Cheyenne Richards.

In the third and final set, freshman Ashley Kaylor served up 13 of the 25 CSUSM points in two different runs that included three of her four aces in the match.

The Cougars hit the road for their final away game of the regular season, traveling to Westmont on Tuesday, Oct. 28. First serve is 5 p.m.
