No. 15 CSUSM Puts Up Nine Against Shorthanded Bethesda Squad

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Eight different Cougars scored as the No. 15 Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team made easy work of a shorthanded Bethesda squad, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at the CSUSM Multipurpose Field.

Megan Pfrunder scored twice, the Cougars led 3-0 at the break and CSUSM poured in six goals in the second half on the way to its sixth victory in its last seven games. The Cougars are unbeaten in their last seven and improve to 8-2-2 overall while Bethesda drops to 2-8.

BUC had just nine players the entire match and the Cougars took full advantage. Amy Alber, Pfrunder and Paulina Good scored to give CSUSM a comfortable halftime advantage.

In the second stanza, head coach Bobby Renneisen gave his youngsters some ample time on the pitch. However, the first goal was put in 15 seconds into the frame by senior defender Nicole Luna – the first goal of her Cougar career.

Alexa Watkins, Katie Largent and Shantae Elam all scored the first goals of their respective CSUSM careers later in the game.

Erica Dory and Kimi Mendenhall combined for the shutout.

The Cougars return to action next Friday, October 24 against San Diego Christian at 3 p.m. on the CSUSM Multipurpose Field.
