SAN MARCOS, Calif. – No. 18 Concordia (Calif.) scored in the second overtime to hand No. 21 Cal State San Marcos a 1-0 loss on Tuesday afternoon in women's soccer action on Mangrum Soccer Field.
The Cougars dropped their third game in a row and now sit at 4-3-1 on the year. CUI remains undefeated with a 5-0-2 record.
Early in the second extra period, CUI's Megan Daniels went in for a 50-50 challenge on CSUSM goalkeeper Amanda Sears. They both arrived at the ball at the same time, and the ball popped out to the left side of the box. Dalyn Petroff hit it confidently into the open net to give CUI the sudden victory.
The Cougars played on their heels for much of the second half and were outshot by the Eagles 7-1. CSUSM needed goal-line clearances by Brianne Searl and Amy Alber to keep CUI off the board in regulation.
CSUSM leaves tomorrow afternoon for a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah. The Cougars face Rocky Mountain on Friday before clashing with host Westminster on Sunday.
