EL CAJON, Calif. – The No. 15 Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team remains unbeaten after San Diego Christian its first loss, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Natalie Lara's first goal as a Cougar provided the game winner in the 54th minute. SDCC (4-1) could not get the ball out of the back and turned the ball over inside the six-yard box . Lara got her foot to it and poked a shot past SDCC goalkeeper Sandra Castro.
The score was the first against the Hawks this season.
"The team played great this afternoon. We stayed solid and grinded out the 1-0 result; that's our style," said CSUSM head coach Ron Pulvers. "I'm pretty fired up for our players."
CSUSM outshot the Hawks 8-5, tallying seven of those shots in the second half. SDCC was held to one shot in the second stanza.
Amanda Sears earned the shutout and made a pair of saves.
The win moves the Cougars to 4-0-1 on the season.
CSUSM will hit the road on Thursday to face Biola.
