CSUSM Looks to Remain Unbeaten Against Olivet Nazarene, Vanguard


SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 12 Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team will host Olivet Nazarene and Vanguard at MiraCosta College this week.

The CSUSM women's basketball team will take on Menlo at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday night, prior to the men's team's matchup with Olivet Nazarene. Fans that purchase tickets for the women's game are entitled to stay for the men's game, as well. One ticket à two games.

The Cougars are 4-0 for the first time in program history … CSUSM downed Biola (74-65) and Daemen College (88-74) last week … The Cougars have had four different players lead them in scoring in each of their first four contests … CSUSM is shooting 42.7% as a team and 39.1% from behind the arc … Five players are averaging 10 points or more – De'End Parker (16.0), Malcolm Lemmons (14.8), Jason Johnson (10.5), Zack Zaragoza (10.3) and Bobby Macias (10.0) … The top five scorers are all newcomers to CSUSM.

Homecoming Recap
CSUSM led by as many as 28 in its home opener against Daemen College on Saturday, November 16 … The matchup served as the University's first-ever Homecoming Game … The 12 3-pointers made by the Cougars were the most since February 16, 2013 against UC Santa Cruz … Macias was 5-of-7 and 2-of-2 from behind the arc … The Cougars hit 10 3-pointers in the first half … Lemmons finished with a team-high 20 points … Parker had 14 points, four assists, four rebounds and four steals … There were 573 people in attendance … For highlights and interviews about the game, click here.

Olivet Nazarene (1-4)
Olivet Nazarene is an NAIA Division II institution from Bourbonnais, Ill. which competes in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) … The Tigers have lost four straight since opening the season with a overtime win over Cincinnati Christian on Nov. 8 … ONU fell by four to top-ranked NAIA Division I opponent Georgetown (Ky.), the defending national champion … The Tigers are receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll … ONU will also play No. 6 Concordia (Calif.) and Point Loma Nazarene on its trip to California this week … Austin Davis leads the Tigers with 18.2 PPG … Aaron Larson has posted averages of 13.2 PPG and 9.2 RPG … The Tigers and Cougars have never met.

Vanguard (4-1)
The Cougars are 2-0 all-time against the Lions, having taken down VU in both 2011 and 2012 … CSUSM's first game as a program was against Vanguard on Nov. 5, 2011, an 86-61 victory by the Cougars …  VU has won three straight against Warner Pacific, UC Merced and West Coast Baptist … Preston Wynne leads the Lions with 15.55 PPG, while Chris Gorman is averaging 13.5 … CSUSM forward Quincy Lawson scored 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting in last season's tilt vs. Vanguard in Costa Mesa … Adam Eakles did not miss a shot, going 2-of-2 from the field and 5-of-5 from the stripe … VU received 48 points in the preseason national poll and is technically ranked No. 27.
