KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team will open the 2013 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship at 14
th-seeded The Master's College on Saturday, November 23 at 1:00 p.m. in Santa Clarita.
CSUSM (11-5-1) earned a trip to its third straight NAIA Tournament by winning its fourth Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championship in the last six seasons on Saturday in Lawrenceville, Ga.
TMC (15-5-0) received the fifth of the six at-large berths doled out by the tournament committee. The Mustangs finished in fourth place in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) regular-season standings and advanced to the GSAC Tournament semifinals.
The Mustangs beat the Cougars in the teams' previous meeting this season on Sept. 21 in Santa Clarita, 2-0. CSUSM is 3-3-1 (.500) all-time vs. TMC.
Head coach
Ron Pulvers' squad will be making its fifth appearance in the NAIA postseason tournament. The Cougars are 1-4 all-time in the competition, their lone victory coming in their first-ever appearance against Benedictine in 2008 (W, 2-0).
The Cougars enter Saturday's match as winners of four of their last five contests. Furthermore, they've won seven of their last nine.
The winner of Saturday's matchup will advance to the Second Round, Dec. 2 or 3, in Orange Beach, Ala.
