The Crown Fits: CSUSM Takes Home Fourth A.I.I. Title

Box Score

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The second-seeded Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team won its fourth Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championship in the last six seasons, 3-1, over top-seeded Ashford on Saturday night at Grizzly Field.

Paulina Good, Natalie Lara and Monica Aguilera netted first-half goals as CSUSM improved to 11-5-1 with the victory. Good was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after finishing the competition with two goals in the team's two contests.

"It feels good to get the trophy back. The women played great, played hard, and played like a championship team," said head coach Ron Pulvers. "We have been challenging this group all year long to buy in and play tough, disciplined soccer. We've seen it the last three weeks. They're playing the best they've played all year at the right time."

Good, Dani Porter, Nicole Luna and Kaleigh Dodson were named to the all-tournament team.

The match served as revenge of sort, after Ashford beat CSUSM in the A.I.I. Final in San Marcos in 2012. The Cougars had previously won the conference title in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

CSUSM will await its assignment for the NAIA Opening Round. This will be the third season in a row in which the Cougars will play in the NAIA postseason.
