Malcolm Lemmons and
Zack Zaragoza have contributed 13.0 PPG and 12.7 PPG, respectively.
Bobby Macias led the Cougars with 16 points, five assists and no turnovers on Tuesday against the Eagles.
The Opponent
Daemen College is a liberal arts college with an enrollment of 3,000 students in Amherst, N.Y. Â Daemen is currently 2-0 on the year and will face UC San Diego on Friday night prior to Saturday's contest at CSUSM. The Wildcats are currently in the second year of the minimum three-year transition process from NAIA into NCAA Division II. Now in Candidacy Year 2, Daemen will play its first season in the East Coast Conference (ECC). Last season during Candidacy Year 1, the Wildcats went 27-6 overall and reached the finals of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championship tournament. Daemen will compete in the USCAA postseason until it is eligible for NCAA postseason play after the 2014-15 school year.
Early Cougar Impressions
The Cougars put together a pair of impressive performances in exhibitions at San Diego State and UCLA on Nov. 1 and 4, respectively.
Jason Johnson scored a game-high 27 points and the Cougars were within five points with less than five minutes to play at SDSU. Against UCLA, four CSUSM starters finished in double-digits, led by
Malcolm Lemmons with 20 points. Lemmons and
Zack Zaragoza went 5-of-11 from behind the arc against the Bruins.
Kings of the Court
CSUSM is historically strong in its home digs at MiraCosta College. The Cougars are 19-5 all-time and have won 17 of their last 18 contests on their home floor. In 2012-13, CSUSM went 12-1 at home, its only loss coming to defending national champion Concordia (Calif.) on Dec. 8.
