PLNU Slips Past CSUSM in Season Finale

Box Score

SAN DIEGO – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team ended the regular season with a 1-0 loss at Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon at PLNU Soccer Field.

PLNU snapped CSUSM's two-game winning streak on Dottie Rhoten's 79th-minute goal.

The Cougars outshot the Sea Lions 6-5, but could not convert their dangerous opportunities. Ashley Graves and Dani Porter put forth solid offensive performances while Paulina Good stood out in the midfield.

CSUSM dropped to 9-5-1 overall while PLNU improved to 8-6-1.

"The majority of the game was played in the midfield, but give credit to Point Loma because they made one more play than us," said CSUSM head coach Ron Pulvers. "We played well. I thought it was a super decent game. If we play like this in Georgia, we'll be in good shape."

The Cougars move on to Nov. 15-16's Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championship in Gwinnett, Ga., where they will be the No. 2-seed. The winner of the four-team tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament, which starts on Nov. 23.
