No. 9 CSUSM Wins Ninth Straight, 81-64 Over PLNU

Cougars have won 12 of last 13 since Nov. 30.

Box Score SAN DIEGO – Three Cougars finished in double figures as the ninth-ranked Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team earned its ninth win in a row with an 81-64 victory over Point Loma Nazarene on Wednesday night at Golden Gymnasium.

Danny Redmon led the way with 14 points while Jacob Ranger and AJ Gasporra registered 15 and 13, respectively. The Cougars forced 24 turnovers while committing just 11, offsetting PLNU's (3-12) 45-32 rebounding advantage.

PLNU (3-12) held CSUSM (17-4) to a season-low 51 points in the Cougars' win over the Sea Lions on Dec. 5, but Wednesday's contest would be a different story.

CSUSM (17-4) shot 50-percent from the field and made 7-of-12 3-pointers in the first half to build a 46-31 halftime advantage. A 14-5 run midway through the second half brought the Sea Lions within single digits, 67-58 at the 8:33 mark.

However, Adam Eakles answered with a jumper and Jose Rivera hit a 3-pointer on the Cougars' next two possessions to spur CSUSM in a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to seal the contest.

For Ranger, who came off the bench for the first time this season, his double-digit output was his first in five games since tallying 15 in CSUSM's big win over UC Merced on Dec. 28. Bryan Emanuel earned his first start of the season in Ranger's typical spot and went 2-of-3 from the field for a total of five points.

The Cougars have now won 12 of their last 13 and have not lost since falling 84-79 to defending national champion Concordia (Calif.) on Dec. 8.

CSUSM hosts UC Santa Cruz on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at MiraCosta College.
