Men's Basketball defeats La Sierra 83-65

Tied at the half, Cougars blow the game open after the break

The Cal State San Marcos Men's Basketball Team defeated the La Sierra Golden Eagles on their home floor Saturday evening, using a strong second half run to win their third straight game and move to 17-10 on the season.

The teams played pretty evenly in the first half, and entered the locker rooms with the score knotted at 40-40. The Cougars were able to up their defensive intensity in the second half, limiting the host Golden Eagles to just 25 points over the final 20 minutes. San Marcos shot nearly 52% over that same stretch, and were able to get to the foul line 17 times in the 2nd half, compared to just 6 free throw attempts for La Sierra.

Jamel McGuire led all scorers with 21 points, and Danny Redmon made his presence felt all over the floor, adding 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. AJ Chamberlain recorded a double-double in his first game back after returning from injury, recording 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars. The double-double is his tenth of the season.

CSUSM will get a long break before their next game, which is against #13 The Master's College at home on Thursday, February 16th. Their final home game of the year and team senior day is February 25th against Black Hills State (SD).
