The Cal State San Marcos Men's Basketball team nearly took down Concordia when they were ranked #1 back in December, and got another chance to do so Thursday evening, but a first half three-point barrage by Concordia was too much to overcome and the Cougars fell 92-75.
CSUSM played pretty well offensively, shooting 51.7% on the game, and even outrebounded #4 Concordia 38-30, but the sharp shooting Eagles hit 10-of-17 three-pointers in the first half, putting the Cougars in a deficit they could not overcome.
San Marcos guard
Jamel McGuire rose to the occasion with leading rebounder Aaron Chamberlain out from an injury, grabbing a school-record 17 rebounds— 4 more than the previous program best. McGuire also added a game-high 25 points, a season best for him as well.
Jacob Ranger also had a solid night, chipping in 19 points and 6 rebounds, and
Tim Steed contributed 15 points and 4 rebounds.
The Cougars are now 17-11 on the season, and will play their final home game Saturday, February 25th against Black Hills State at 7:30pm. This will also be Senior Night, so please arrive early as the Cougars will recognize the first class of seniors in Cal State San Marcos Basketball history.
