Women’s Cross Country reloads, signs Nicaela Hernandez

3-time defending National Champions will look for Nicaela to contribute right away

The Cal State San Marcos Women's Cross Country team took a large step towards a 4th consecutive national championship Tuesday, signing Nicaela Hernandez from Murrieta, CA.

Hernandez, a standout senior at Vista Murrieta High School, is no stranger to big races. She helped lead the Broncos to a 2nd Place finish at this year's California State Cross Country Championships, finishing 22nd place with a 5K time of 18:35. Hernandez and the Broncos also took 2nd place in the prestigious Mt. Sac Sweepstakes Race earlier in the season.

A Senior All-Riverside County selection in cross country, Nicaela also excels on the track, running 11:19 in the 3200m and 5:14 in the 1600m as a junior.

CSUSM Coach Steve Scott was pleased to announce her signing. “We are very excited to welcome Nicaela to Cal State San Marcos. She is the type of person and athlete that we love to have. We are graduating some very talented girls, but I believe that Nicaela can slide right in and make an impact for us as we shoot for another national championship next year.”
